International Youth Day is an international day of celebration declared by the United Nations on 1999. The International Youth Day 2017 is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace.
The National Youth Council invite people to engage with the local theme "Youth PeaceBuilding: Delivering an inclusive New Gambia" through the social media campaign:
#IStand4Peace: This campaign calls for personal responsibility of citizens (youth) to advocate, ensure and sustained peaceful coexistence among youth, communities, ethics, political parties and across generations. Youth constitute more than 60% of the population and their involcment in peace maintainance is critical to all factors leading to violence and conflcict.
