Description
Following the adoption of the SDGs in 2015, sustainability has nowadays become a global trend across sectors. For instance, the UN General Assembly has declared 2017 as the international year of sustainable tourism for development. Based on our experience, connecting women entrepreneurs with international markets needs to go hand in hand with supporting their efforts to improve the sustainability of their business model.
A few big travel agencies require their suppliers to be members of sustainability standards. Becoming members of sustainability standards may be burdensome and costly. ITC maintains a comprehensive platform of voluntary sustainability standards, called ITC Sustainability Map. It lists sustainability standards and offers a self-assessment exercise vis-à-vis standard requirements.
The requirements of sustainability standards can be used as the baseline to evaluate the sustainability of enterprises’ business model. Applying the Cambridge Value Mapping Tool to the requirements of sustainability standards can help enterprises identify value uncaptured and map related value opportunities.
