The International Trade Centre (ITC), through the GIZ-funded project “The Gambia: Activating skills and employment opportunities”, and in partnership with MOHERST and NAQAA, is offering a formalized apprenticeship programme in Tailoring and Garment Construction for interested Gambian youth. The apprenticeship consists of a work-based learning programme where apprentices learn on-the-job to develop the skills and knowledge to become professional tailors. The programme will last for eight months and during this time the apprentice will be hosted by a tailoring business and work onsite for them. By the end of the training, the apprentices will receive a nationally recognized certificate. Applicants should apply if they have an interest in tailoring and garment making and wish to develop their skills and knowledge in a real workplace setting. Apprentices will be expected to work a full working week in line with company policies.

HOSTING BUSINESS: Malick Mendy Tailoring, Ida’s Ideas Fashion Training Institute and Bakoteh Multi-Purpose Social and Skills Centre.

DURATION: 8 months, including two practical skills and knowledge-based assessments and off the job training sessions

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Must be a Gambian citizen.

Must be aged 18-35.

Must at least complete Grade 9

No prior experience is necessary, but applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in tailoring and Garment Construction and desire to undertake the apprenticeship program.

Youth from all regions are eligible to apply.

  • Young women, returnees, and early school leavers are particularly encouraged to apply.

All materials and equipment required for the training programme shall be provided.
