In 2025, the EU Youth Empowerment Project – Tourism and Creative Industries supported youth, women, small businesses, cultural groups and tourism sites across The Gambia. The project provided skills training, apprenticeships and scholarships to youth and women in areas such as hospitality, tailoring, beauty, arts, solar and electrical installation and agriculture. Cultural groups and emerging artists received training to improve their performance, stage presence, audience engagement and basic business management. Small businesses and women entrepreneurs gained access to new markets through trade fairs, festivals, pop-up markets, and business-to-business events, which helped them sell products, make connections and grow their enterprises.

In addition, tourism and heritage sites received solar panels and other infrastructure improvements, which lowered operating costs, ensured reliable services and enhanced visitor experiences. Activities such as Perreh Bi Fest and local cultural festivals connected communities, provided platforms for artists and small businesses, promoted cultural heritage and supported the growth of local tourism. Overall, the project strengthened skills, expanded business opportunities and helped build a more inclusive and sustainable tourism and creative sector in The Gambia.
